Bio-augmentation

Bio-augmentation is the process whereby formulated bacterial products are applied for the establishment of biomass in the biological process in any Biological WWTP. Once the Biomass in WWTP has establish, it (bacterial cells) will then enhance the degradation of pollutants consisting of organic matters, inorganic and Oil & Grease. The result will be clean discharge water that comply with DOE Standard A or B.

The overall generalized reaction of Bio-degradation:

              COD (Carbon Source) + O2 + Bacteria -> Energy + CO2 + H2O

 This equation represents the complete conversion of the complex carbon compound, also called substrate, to Carbon Dioxide and water. This process is also known as Mineralization Process.

Generally, the degradation process can be both via enzymatic degradation and direct absorption process.

Benefit of Bio-augmentation

Bio-augmentation is the application of formulated BCI’s products. By conducting a proper and right bacterial products, we are not only increasing the population of “effective” bacteria to specifically degrade complex Carbonaceous & Nitrogenous compound, but also would create an active biomass during the first stage of biodegradation process through the secretion of specific enzyme that resulted in :-

  1. Biomass bacteria effectively metabolizes both inorganic & organic solids. As for the soluble compound, for the portion of suspended organic which is metabolized, there will be fractions that is oxidized and the other fraction is transformed (synthesized) into biomass. Thus stabilizing MLVSS/MLSS ratio and eliminating odour problem.
  2. Suspended organic is flocculated with the biomass and settle at the bottom thus creating segregation process for clarified supernatant – improves SV30 via Bio-coagulation. This is very crucial at the Clarification process in the settling tank.
  3. BCI formulation not only enhance degradation directly, but it also contains certain strains that will be able to excrete inducive enzyme and bio-surfactants to breakdown any complex molecular structures both organic & inorganic compound for oleochemical effluent.
  4. Prevention of WWTP up-set, by introducing proper plant management i.e. proper understanding of chemistry and microbiology for current stabilization and long-term solution.
  5. Cost saving on usage of chemicals and effluent/sludge disposal.

Bug-farm

Bug-farm is the process of culturing and acclimatizing BCI’s that contains freeze-dried bacterial formulation. The method of preparation is to use a 200 litre container (or 1000 liter) which contains water, bacteria, special formulated chemical, macro & micro-nutrients equipped with air supply. This is to increase the amount of bacteria in the wastewater and at the same time to acclimatize and induction of bio-surfactant production and solvent compound degradation.
